Built With Speedway Motors: Mark's '27 Ford
Here's another in our series of cars #BuiltWithSpeedwayMotors. This is the story of how Mark's cool yellow T roadster project helped him keep it together while transitioning into retirement.
This project saved my sanity. After retirement of 37 years in the railroad industry, I spent five years completing this 1927 Ford in my home garage.
I built a 2x4 square tube frame for the foundation with a home-made suicide front end and Vega cross steering. The rear is a Winters Quick Change built off 9" Ford outer ends and '40 Ford bells. The engine is a 1968 327 with 3-deuce carburation backed by a 350 automatic.
This was not my first, as my love of cars has been from an early age and through high school. This project helped me adjust to a "normal" car life after 13 hour days working. It was also my privilege to get to know Bill Smith when he opened his Speedway Motors shop in Lincoln. I have been involved in straight line racing and dirt track racing for what seems like forever.
