Stop Rust Immediately
You’ve spotted your dream car. Problem is, it has spent the last 20 years in John-boy’s barn down the road a mile or two. Body is in good shape, things are looking great, and now it’s time to pull the interior for a refresh. Pull the seats, the dash, and then the carpets, and then you find it.
It’s rust, the bane of almost every car enthusiast on the planet. Those four letters can ruin anyone’s day. Rust has spread across the floorboards of your car, but thankfully it is just surface depth. Time for new floor panels right? That’s going to be expensive. Why not go a different route instead?
3X Chemistry has a solution in their Satin Rust Encapsulator product. This product was specifically designed to bond to rusty surfaces, and has been proven to permanently stop corrosion. You can spray it out of a standard HVLP spray gun, or brush it on, depending on your preference.
Begin by knocking all the loose stuff off of the area to be treated, go after it with a wire brush if you have some stubborn stuff. Clean it thoroughly, avoiding kerosene based cleaners and solvents, as these might not allow for a proper bond. While the surface dries you can get ready to apply the agent. Don’t shake the Encapsulator, all it needs is a thorough stirring. Try to avoid getting any of the agent in the grooves of the can, because you’ll never get it back open if you do. Use a paint cup to scoop what is needed.
If you are using an HVLP gun, use a tip between 0.013”-0.017” at a pressure of 6-7 PSI for two coats. Allow 3-6 hours for tack time between coats. If you are planning on brushing, apply in thin, even coats. A heavy coat may not dry properly and develop bubbles. Both application styles will cure between 48-72 hours, depending on conditions.
Once the Encapsulator is properly cured, you can wet sand with 600 grit sandpaper until the finish is dull. Then you are able to paint over it with the color of your choice.
